Noise in communication refers to any interference that affects message clarity and understanding. But noise isn’t just about literal sound. It comes in multiple forms, each capable of distorting messages in different ways.
Physical noise includes the obvious culprits: loud background sounds, poor audio quality in video calls, or visual distractions that prevent clear reception. In our remote work era, unstable internet connections causing choppy audio represent a prime example of how physical noise creates communication barriers.
Semantic noise occurs when people interpret words or symbols differently. Technical jargon confuses non-experts. Cultural differences create misunderstandings.
