The Indus Valley Civilization wasn’t isolated. Trade networks economically integrated vast areas including Mesopotamia, coastal Persia, and Central Asia. Archaeological evidence shows that Indus seals, carnelian beads, and pottery have been discovered at sites throughout the ancient Middle East, indicating extensive commercial relationships.
The civilization developed plank boats with central masts for long-distance sea trade, enabling commerce across the Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf. Key contributions in metallurgy and textiles
Ancient India achieved extraordinary advances in metallurgy. By 500 BCE, Indian metallurgists were producing high-quality steel through the crucible technique, mixing wrought iron, charcoal, and glass in crucibles to create what became known as wootz steel. This remarkable material was exported throughout Asia and Europe, prized for its exceptional strength and sharpness.
The famous Damascus swords, renowned for their cutting ability, were actually made from Indian wootz steel. A Roman historian recorded that King Porus gifted Alexander the Great with two-and-a-half tons of this precious steel, indicating its tremendous value.
The rust-resistant Delhi Iron Pillar

Nalanda: The world’s first residential university

Nalanda offered courses in Buddhist texts, logic, grammar, medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and philosophy.
